The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced the shortlists for the Academy Awards in 12 categories. Among the shortlisted titles are the documentary ‘2000 Meters to Andriivka’ by Mstyslav Chernov and Oleksandr Babenko, the animated short film ‘I Died in Irpin’ by Anastasiia Falileieva, and the live action short film ‘Rock, Paper, Scissors’, starring Ukrainian actor Oleksandr Rudynskyi in the leading role
‘2000 Meters to Andriivka’ was also a contender for the Best International Feature Film shortlist.
The nominees for the 2026 Oscars will be announced on January 22, 2026. The awards ceremony will take place on March 15.
In February 2025, ‘Rock, Paper, Scissors’ received an award from the UK’s leading film prize, BAFTA, winning Best British Short Film. The film was directed by Franz Böhm, and in addition to Oleksandr Rudynskyi, it also stars Ukrainian actors Serhii Kalantai, Yurii Radionov, and Oleksandr Yatsenko.
In November 2025, Anastasiia Falileieva received an Emile Award at the European Animation Awards, where ‘I Died in Irpin’ was named Best Short Film.
