A fusion of high-tech and handcraft: Ukrainian brand Broq releases collaboration with London’s Tides Studios

Ukrainian jewelry brand Broq and London-based Tides Studios — known for producing eyewear using 3D printing — have released a limited collaborative collection titled ‘INTERFACE’. It features sunglasses that merge Tides Studios’ technology with Broq’s signature jewelry detailing

Describing the collaboration, the brands say it ‘explores the harmony between technology and the human touch’.

The base of the glasses was designed and handcrafted at London’s Tides Studios. The frame was 3D-printed using nylon and SLS technology — a method of 3D printing that involves laser sintering of powdered plastic-based materials.

The standout detail of the glasses is a modular jewelry chain — each one handcrafted in Kyiv by Broq’s artisans. The hybrid accessory is made from nickel-plated bronze and sterling silver.

The glasses and accessory can be worn in three different ways: with or without the attached chain, and thanks to additional removable attachments included in the set, the jewelry can be worn separately as an earring on the frame or on the ears.

‘We weren’t trying to disrupt each other’s creative process, — Broq founder Anna Kharabuha says. — We found a common ground — an interface — between our two worlds’.

Joseph Alpert, founder of Tides Studios, adds that ‘at Tides, everything starts with digital precision’. However, for this collaboration, they ‘chose imperfection, where machine-made and handmade don’t compete but coexist’.

The glasses are available in a limited edition and can be purchased on the websites of Broq and Tides Studios.

About Broq

Ania Kharabuha launched the Broq brand in early 2020.

The Broq team draws inspiration from the beauty of imperfection, the fluidity of time and life, gender neutrality, and natural textures. The brand produces earrings, earcuffs, rings, and hand jewelry — abstract items that resist straightforward definition.

We explored the story and philosophy behind Broq in our interview with Ania: ‘I was inspired by the way moss grows and decay processes take place’. Meet the Kyiv-based jewelry brand Broq

Broq and m0d44 were also among the brands that collaborated with MOT — the art space by the don’t Take Fake team. You can read more about them here.
