Check out Oleksii Podat’s live performance in Druzhkivka

Oleksii Podat’s performance was recorded during an event celebrating the opening of the museum of the Druzhkivka Porcelain Factory on October 31 this year. Now you can listen to the recording lasting more than 20 minutes on 20ft Radio SoundCloud

According to Oleksii Podat, the performance had ‘a semi-secret format due to information about a possible rocket attack on a gathering of people in a city 20 km from the front line’. The opening of the museum was organized by the research enterprise ‘Sady Donbasu’.

In the live performance, Oleksii Podat combined ‘marching epicness, gleaming noisiness and droning emotiveness’, with which he wanted to reflect ‘the disturbing electronic elegy of our nowadays routine’.

About Oleksii Podat

He is a composer and music producer who was born in Sloviansk.

Oleksii Podat works with power electronics, noise and ambient. He describes his sound as ‘melodic noise’, which contains naïve, dramatic melodies that loop and flow into heavy, raw, rumbling structures. His music is largely based on field recordings, which he later distorts beyond recognition, giving them new, personal meanings.

As a composer, Oleksii has collaborated with the Kharkiv Theatre of Lightpainting, experimental filmmaker Sashko Protyah, and the Mute Nights archival film festival. Podat has also created mixes for Cxema and 20ft Radio, and collaborated with John Object and Maryana Klochko.

In September 2024, for the first time in five years, Oleksii Podat released the album ‘lahidni stosunky zi svitom na dni zemli’. It consists of seven tracks about ‘the need for unconditional love’, which, according to Oleksii, ‘intensified in him, as in many others, against the backdrop of a full-scale war’.
