Альбом LATE гурту Hyphen Dash

Kyiv-based band Hyphen Dash has released the album ‘LATE’

The full-length release by Hyphen Dash features tracks written over the course of six years. ‘LATE’ will be presented on November 30 at a concert by an expanded lineup of the band at Concert Hall (Kyrylivska 41)

‘LATE’ was written between 2019 and 2024. The earliest tracks — including ‘River Of Edena’ and ‘LUVUHEIT’ — were recorded in the basement of a Pechersk dance studio ‘during jam sessions using just a few microphones’. Meanwhile, the ‘newer and bolder works’, such as ‘Hyphentallica’ and ‘Berlin’, were created in a more structured way, ‘sublimating the entire experience of living through war in modern Ukraine’.

Some of the tracks from ‘LATE’ were performed live by Hyphen Dash as part of the YouTube project ‘SWING LIVE’

According to the band’s frontman Myshko Birchenko, the tracks from the album had been ‘maturing in hearts, pockets, shelves, and studios’ for so long, that there were moments when they wanted to delete everything and start over from scratch:

‘‘LATE’ is an album loved with all our hearts and, at the same time, hated. So many things stood in the way of this music being released ‘on time’, and at some point you start thinking, ‘It’s too late — LATE!’ You want to delete everything and start from scratch. But then another thought follows: maybe it’s not so irrelevant after all? Maybe now is exactly the right time?’

The album cover was created by Ukrainian multidisciplinary artist Stanis.slav, known for collaborations with Doja Cat, Arca, adidas, Crocs, Jamala, Oliver Sykes, and many others.

About Hyphen Dash’s previous releases

In March, Hyphen Dash drummer Mykhailo Birchenko and guitarist Yevhen Puhachov released the album ‘Basement 626’, recorded in just one week in the frontline city of Kramatorsk. They created 17 tracks from scratch and brought them together into an improvisational LP, complemented by a documentary video about the trip and live studio recordings directed by Vadym Piniahin.

According to the musicians, the idea behind the project was to ‘find a way to create content that would sustain the momentum of supporting the armed forces and the country through creativity’.
