Аукціон артпростору MOT та Tajan у Парижі

MOT is organizing an auction in Paris. It will feature works from the first exhibition

On September 24, the team of the art space Module of Temporality (MOT) together with the French auction house Tajan will hold a charity auction in support of Ukrainian art institutions damaged as a result of russian aggression.

This is the last stage of the ‘Temporality’ exhibition, which opened at MOT in February 2023 and traveled to cities across Ukraine for a year. The auction will feature works by 23 artists who were part of the space’s first exhibition in 2023.

About the works

A total of 26 works by foreign and Ukrainian artists will be offered for sale at the auction.

Tajan presents a portrait of Ukrainian activist Serhiy Nigoyan by Portuguese artist Vhils, a print with the flag of Ukraine and the symbol of peace by French street artist Zevs, one of the embroideries from ‘Anxiety’ series by Zhanna Kadyrova, a print ‘I was not born to submit’ by French artist Tania Mouraud, a work by co-founder of the Soundwalk Collective duo Stephan Crasneanscki, as well as prints by Ukrainian artists Volodymyr WaOne Manzhos, Oleksiy Sai and Alexey Kondakov and French-American artist Prune Nourry.

In addition, one of the installations was provided by Swiss artist Thomas Hirschhorn — in August 2024 he visited Kharkiv and took part in the exhibition of YermilovCentre. Also among the auction lots are paintings and installations by Pierre Ardouvin, Ghyslain Bertholon, Cathryn Boch, Anne-Flore Cabanis, Philippe Cognee, Noël Dolla, Nikita Kravtsov, Roman Minin and Lionel Sabatte.

The auction will feature sculptures by American Mark Jenkins, Ukrainian artist Maria Kulykivska, Indian artist Subodh Gupta, Algerian Adel Abdessemed.

Lots for the auction were provided by artists as well as galleries from France and the United States — Galleria Continua, TEMPLON, Danysz Gallery, Praz-Delavallade, Galerie Papillon, Galerie Ceysson & Bénétière, Sapar Contemporary.

How to participate in the auction

You can view the lots and register for the auction online on the Tajan website. All works are already at the auction house, where they can also be seen in person.

The auction will take place at the Tajan auction house space in Paris, 37 rue des Mathurins, on September 24, and will begin at 5:00 pm.

Which institution is supported by MOT

In September 2023, the MOT art space began collecting applications from war-affected art institutions to support the restoration of one of them. As a result of a selection process involving experts, the project organizers chose the Chernihiv Regional Art Museum named after Hryhorii Halahan.

During more than half a year of operation in Kyiv, Dnipro, Lutsk and Lviv, the Module of Temporality fund accumulated more than 10 million UAH. Any Ukrainian art institutions that preserve and present art, have their own collections and are ready to transparently show the restoration process could apply for financial assistance.

From the total list of applications, the organizers of the restoration campaign — don’t Take Fake and NGO Algorithm of Actions — selected seven damaged art institutions that need assistance in restoration and are located in Ukrainian-controlled territories.

In addition to the Chernihiv Art Museum, the shortlist included the Kharkiv Art Museum, the Koenig Estate in Trostianets, Dovzhenko Centre, the Odesa Literary Museum, Kharkiv Municipal Gallery and the Bashtanka Local History Museum.

If there is enough money in the fund after the auction, the second shortlisted institution — Kharkiv Art Museum — will also receive assistance.

About Chernihiv Regional Art Museum

Chernihiv Regional Art Museum named after Hryhorii Halahan began its work on the territory of the monument of architecture of the XIX century in 1983.

As a result of artillery shelling, the facade of the building, the basement, ground, first and second floor spaces, including the storeroom, were damaged. At present, a significant part of the collection is located in rooms that are unsuitable for storage.

More about MOT

MOT is a temporary cultural space by the don’t Take Fake team that operated in Kyiv, Dnipro, Lutsk and Lviv during February-October 2023.

The two-story structure, built from 27 metal modules, presents an exposition with canvases, sculptures, installations and audiovisual works by 28 artists from 10 countries, who dedicated their works to the theme of ‘temporality’ — the state of uncertainty and change in which Ukrainians find themselves now. The space worked in Kyiv for three months and then traveled across Ukraine — Dnipro, Lutsk and Lviv.

You can find out more about MOT, its idea and history, architectural concept and visual language, as well as read exclusive interviews with the curator of the project and Ukrainian and foreign artists in our special topic.

In June, Module of Temporality opened in Lviv with a new exhibition. The exhibition, created by the team of The Collectyv, a project aimed at highlighting Ukrainian contemporary art, presented the works by 18 Ukrainian artists.
