Ukrainian DJ Serge Jazzmate and sound producer Kadiristy have released the house track ‘Pick & Stick’ on the British label Not An Animal Records. The release is part of the compilation ‘The Curse Of Bad Passion: Ten Years Of Not An Animal Records’, marking the label’s tenth anniversary
The first version of ‘Pick & Stick’ was created by Serge Jazzmate in Kyiv in 2014, in collaboration with musician Andrii Yukhnovskyi, who performed the main instrumental parts. In 2025, thanks to the collaboration with Serhii Kadiristyi, the track underwent a ‘reincarnation’ — he added greater dynamics and technical precision, transforming it into a club-ready dance composition.
The title ‘Pick & Stick’ comes from one of the presets of the Korg M1 synthesizer that was used in the creation of the track.
The Ukrainian artists’ track ended up on ‘The Curse Of Bad Passion: Ten Years Of Not An Animal Records’ almost by chance — Serge Jazzmate sent a demo version to DJ Paul Thompson seeking feedback. Thompson then shared the recording with the founders of Not An Animal Records, who decided to include the track on the label’s tenth-anniversary compilation.

The compilation is available for streaming on Spotify and YouTube. You can purchase it on Bandcamp, Junodownload as well as Beatport. Serge Jazzmate and Kadiristy are also preparing ambient and dub versions of the track.
‘The Curse Of Bad Passion, Ten Years Of Not An Animal Records’ also features a track by Ukrainian sound producer Shjva.
