Serhii Melnychenko, a Ukrainian photographer, has presented the book ‘Films from the Front Line: Photographs, Letters, and Artifacts of Ukrainian Soldiers’, a project he worked on throughout 2025. Melnychenko sent disposable film cameras to Ukrainian servicemembers, inviting them to document their own lives, daily routines, and work. Along with the cameras, he asked them to return a handwritten letter and a small artifact of their choice
In total, the book brings together the stories of 21 servicemembers from different sections of the front line.
According to Melnychenko, at the beginning of 2025 he wanted to continue documenting the work, lives, and everyday routines of Ukrainian servicemembers, but he did not have the opportunity to travel to the front as often as he would have liked. He then approached Fotovramci with a proposal to send disposable cameras to soldiers on the condition that the cameras would be returned along with a handwritten letter and an artifact.
