Ukrainian b-boy won ‘silver’ at the youth world championship

17-year-old Ukrainian b-boy Illia Raptor Mashchenko became the silver medalist of the World Youth Breaking Championship, which was held in the Chinese city of Wuxi on September 28-29. In the final, the athlete lost to b-boy Ra1on from Japan, the third place went to Quicksilver from China

‘I’m not happy with the result — I wanted to get the gold. But I know for sure that I did my best. Now the priority is to recover and continue training to show maximum results at the next competitions’, Raptor commented on his medal.

More than 200 athletes from 38 countries took part in the World Youth Breaking Championship. Ukraine was represented by a team of nine b-boys and b-girls: Raptor (Lviv), Muha (Nikopol), George (Poltava), Rubik (Nikopol), Riva (Bila Tserkva), Sonya (Bila Tserkva), Yellow (Poltava), Sly Fox (Kyiv) and Hanna (Poltava).

Muha and George made it to the top-64 of the competition, and Riva — to the top-32. The coach of the team — b-boy Denis Gimnast Semenikhin, who coached the adult Olympic team, and the head of the team — Valerii Ben Bychkov.

In August, the first Olympic breaking competition was held at the Olympic Games in Paris, in which 33 athletes from 16 countries took part. ‘Gold’ among women was won by Japanese b-girl Ami Ami Yuasa, and among men — by Canadian Philip Phil Wizard Kim.

In the men’s final, Phil Wizard competed against France’s Danis Dany Dann Civil. He defeated him with a score of 3-0 (in each round). The bronze medal was won by American b-boy Victor Victor Montalvo.

The finalists in the women’s breaking competition were b-girls Ami Ami Yuasa and Dominika Nicka Baniewicz from Lithuania. Ami won with a score of 3-0. Liu 671 Qingyi won the bronze medal.

Ukraine at the Olympics in Paris was represented by b-girls Anna Stefani Ponomarenko, Kateryna Kate Pavlenko and b-boy Oleh Kuzya Kuznetsov.

In the group stage, Stefani and Kate made it to Group D, where they battled it out to reach the quarterfinals. Although the battle ended in a draw, Kate took first place in the group by the total number of judges’ votes and advanced to the quarterfinals. Stefani placed third and was two points short of advancing out of the group.

In the quarterfinals, Kateryna Pavlenko lost to bronze medalist 671 with a score of 0-3.

B-boy Kuzya finished the Olympics in Group B, where he took third place. Phil Wizard and Dany Dann, the gold and silver medalists of the competition from Kuzmenko’s group, made it to the quarterfinals.
