Parking Spot випустив альбом Moai!

Ukrainian producer Parking Spot has released the album ‘Moai!’

The album ‘Moai!’ by Dnipro-based producer Mark Medvediev includes nine tracks that blend ambient and instrumental music. The release came out on the Odesa label Liky Pid Nohamy and features saxophonist Borys Mohylevskyi, pianist Misha Lishenko, vocalist Mariana Sadovska, and producer Monotonne

The album’s title refers to the stone statues of Easter Island, which ‘mysteriously’ moved from one place to another, leaving traces on the ground. ‘Just like the relocation of these statues, every step in a person’s life leaves a mark. It is about irreversible losses and changes, which at the same time become a source of strength,’ the description reads.

According to Mark, on ‘Moai!’ he wanted to work with space. In addition to ambient and instrumental music, the album features field recordings and archival samples — for example, the sounds of empty spaces, crickets, a sample from Radio Ukraine, and a 2007 weather forecast.

Together they create ‘immersive sound collages that capture time and give it a sense of bittersweet nostalgia and irreversibility’.

‘‘Moai!’ is an intimate story about home and a kind of reflection on the meanings I put into this word, having had repeated experiences of displacement. Do I feel my hometown of Horlivka as something sacred? Is home defined by a feeling of peace? Is the feeling of home something permanent? Perhaps the concept of home is an open question for all of us,’ Parking Spot says about the album.
