Обкладника книжки «Велорух» від Ukraїner

Ukraїner will publish a book about Ukrainian cycling movement

Ukraїner calls ‘Velorukh’ the first comprehensive publication about modern cycling culture in Ukraine. It includes illustrations and texts about cycling clubs, workshops, routes, and members of the cycling community

The book consists of four parts:

Cycling guide to the regions of Ukraine: about Ukrainian cycling routes..

Stories about cycling: about key cycling competitions in Ukraine.

Stories of cult cycling places and events.

Bicycle and war: about the role of bicycle transport during the war, members of the cycling community who defend Ukraine, as well as in the newly de-occupied towns and villages.

Also the book will be supplemented by a separate block with illustrations of Ukrainian artists dedicated to bicycles.

‘From the pages of the book you can draw inspiration when building the route of a bicycle trip; learn about Ukrainian developments of sport bikes and feel the drive of bicycle racing; ride around the city with BMX riders and visit a bicycle workshop, as well as see how bicycles become indispensable for Ukrainians in the newly de-occupied territories’, the Ukraїner team says.

The book was compiled by cycling activists Maria Shevchenko and Yurii Malakis. The author of the design concept is Nataliia Shulga. More than 70 authors, photographers and illustrators also worked on ‘Velorukh’.

‘Some of the best moments of my life are forever connected with bicycle trips around Ukraine with friends. The noise of the wheels while riding in a group, the wind in your hair, the tense muscles and the incomparable spirit of your gang rushing towards adventure. If you have something you love and something that is meaningful to you, you want to share it with others. That’s why we created this book’, Maria Shevchenko says.

You can pre-order ‘Velorukh’ from the Ukraїner store. They will start distributing the book in August 2024.

In May 2024 Spiilka design büro and ist publishing released the first issue of ‘Chronicle of Ukrainian Design’.

The magazine covered projects and designers from typography, graphic, industrial, product and digital design that have influenced Ukraine and the world. One of the topics was the ‘Enej’ bicycle, designed in Ukraine.
