Viggo Mortensen presented his film at Mykolaichuk OPEN

Hollywood actor Viggo Mortensen personally presented his directorial work ‘The Dead Don’t Hurt’ at Mykolaichuk OPEN. The film opened the third Chernivtsi film festival, which will run until June 23

Mortensen also held a press conference and spoke to the festival audience, and the actor began his opening speech in Ukrainian:

‘With great respect for your language, I want to start my speech in Ukrainian: ‘Thank you for inviting me to your festival. It is a great honor to be here and to share our story with all of you’. I am sorry if I may have said something wrong. It is indeed an honor to be here — in Ukraine. You are a proud and proudly independent nation, and you should stay that way’, Mortensen said.

About ‘The Dead Don’t Hurt’

The events of the film take place in the United States in the 1860s. The characters of the film, Vivienne Le Coudy and Danish migrant Holger Olsen, are trying to build a life together in a ‘dusty Nevada town’. When Holger decides to go fight for the Union in the burgeoning Civil War, Vivienne must fend for herself, which isn’t easy in a town controlled by violent men.

The role of Holger Olsen was played by Mortensen and the role of Le Coudy was played by actress Vicky Krieps (‘Corsage’ and ‘Phantom Thread’)

Mykolaichuk OPEN is an international film festival dedicated to iconic Ukrainian actor, screenwriter and director Ivan Mykolaichuk. The third festival takes place in 2024 and will present Harmony Korine’s thriller entitled ‘AGGRO DR1FT’ and Steve McQueen’s ‘Occupied City’.
