DTF Magazine continues its magazine anthology dedicated to specific phenomena of contemporary Ukrainian culture. The previous issue, which came out in June, covered the Ukrainian electronic music scene, while the new issue focuses on Kyiv street fashion, its chronology, key names and events. We tell you about the sixth issue, where and how to buy it
About the idea of the new issue of DTF Magazine
With the sixth issue, the DTF Magazine team aimed to collect and record selected key moments that happened with Kyiv streetwear.
Why streetwear? This is the DNA not only of DTF Magazine, but also of many projects by the don’t Take Fake team — the publisher of DTF Magazine. One of the main components of don’t Take Fake is the eponymous brand show and street culture festival founded in 2011. It grew out of a desire to show audiences that streetwear and sports brands aren’t just about items. It’s about history, values, philosophy and community.
‘By presenting local brands on a level with global brands, the don’t Take Fake team wanted to remove barriers and possible prejudices towards the former (a common phenomenon especially in the early 2010s). Which, by the way, is what those whose stories we tell in this issue are doing’, Volodymyr Voloshchuk, editor-in-chief of DTF Magazine, explains.
In an editorial he adds: ‘While the history of Ukrainian fashion is being researched, books are being written about it, special issues are being made, and large-scale exhibitions are dedicated to it, the history of street fashion in Ukraine is being left aside. The most interesting things can be learned in personal conversations with those who shaped this streetwear in Ukraine, but their stories are still not recorded, or are lost, along with websites that can no longer be opened’.

What’s inside the sixth issue
The issue became a kind of archive with the stories of projects and people who laid the foundation for the further development of street fashion in Kyiv: they launched the first brands, were the first to bring famous international brands to Ukraine and open the Ukrainian market to them, opened stores, represented Ukraine at the world fashion events and opened new trends to the local audience.
The magazine also features a selection of local designers and brands that shape contemporary Kyiv streetwear.
The sixth DTF Magazine contains the following:
— A brief history of Kyiv street fashion.
— Interview with the founders of the first Kyiv streetwear and skateboard brands Peace Date and Ditch Clothing.
— History of the first streetwear, sneaker and concept stores in Kyiv: TOSHOSHOP, Conquest Sneaker Store, PIURE and Atelier1.
— A selection of SYNDICATE archives and iconic RIOTDIVISION items — two main streetwear brands in Kyiv.
— Interview with the founder of Ukrainian Fashion Week Iryna Danylevska. With a focus on how Ukrainian fashion was born and how street aesthetics appeared on the catwalk.
— Profiles of brands that have become an important part of Kyiv street fashion.
‘In the first block, we advise reading the texts in order, as stories that complement each other and form a picture of what happened before 2014. They are about mutual support, collaboration and community spirit, — Volodymyr Voloshchuk adds. — And in general, this issue can be perceived as a kind of archive with the stories of projects that in many ways were the first and paved the way (with both successes and failures)’.
Kyiv-based design studio CREVV was responsible for the design and layout of this issue as well as the previous ones.
The project is implemented with the support of the Ukraine Confidence Building Initiative (UCBI), funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

About the previous printed issue
The fifth issue of DTF Magazine about the Ukrainian electronic music scene was released in June 2024. The issue captures the last decade of the Ukrainian electronic music scene, which started actively developing after the events of the Revolution of Dignity, its heyday and adaptation to the surrounding conditions and turning points — coronavirus pandemic and full-scale war.
This issue contains a list of ’30 Ukrainian electronic music albums of the decade’, exclusive shots on the construction of the ∄ club (Club on Kyrylivska) and an interview with its architect, a rare interview with Slava Lepsheiev, founder of Cxema, and six essays on the regional electronic music scene by people without whom it’s hard to imagine it.
We told you more about the fifth issue (which is still available for purchase) in our article.
