‘hory’ will appear on YUVI’s second full-length album, ‘Viskra’. The noir single, which the artist describes as a teaser for the LP, explores the experience of complex personal emotions and a ‘state of heightened sensitivity’, when feelings are not restrained but instead intensify and unfold
The track blends the aesthetics of noir art pop and electronics with elements of trip hop, as well as ‘mystery with emotional tension and intensity’.
Polina Maiboroda (Hyphen Dash) recorded the keys for ‘hory’ as well as several other tracks on the ‘Viskra’ album.
According to Uliana, this single was the moment she realized she wanted to make an album: ‘This single was the first track I wrote, after which I started thinking about an album. It contains a very deep story worth telling’.
The cover for the single and the upcoming album, shot by Artem Plutalov, features YUVI with a snake on her face. She describes the shot as a ‘symbiosis of instinct and identity’.
‘This is an allusion to classical symbolism, where sin and desire serve as metaphors for human aspirations. The snake here is not just an object but an active filter. Simply put, the inner shapes the outer’, she adds in a comment to DTF Magazine.
YUVI: About the new album
The artist describes ‘Viskra’ as a chronicle of the past two years — her previous album, ‘Spomyna Liubovu’, was released in 2024. There is less chaos and more clarity in her life now, and these changes can be traced through the songs on the album.
The main themes of this ‘cohesive story of eight tracks’ will be destructive intimacy and emotional fatalism. ‘This is music about accepting one’s experiences and trying to live through them to the end instead of escaping’, the description reads.
Asked about the moment she felt ready for her second full-length album, YUVI says she’s actually ‘still not ready’:
‘This is a scale you only dare to take on when you’re overwhelmed by yourself and the process — where the writing feels like finding your way in the dark. I’m still getting used to what I’ve created’.
Uliana adds that her approach to work hasn’t changed — she still writes everything herself and intentionally tries to involve as few people as possible to ‘better control the process’ and to ‘keep outside noise from breaking the ‘line’’.
The sound of ‘Viskra’ reflects YUVI’s last two years — ‘everyone will hear something ‘familiar’’.
The release of ‘Viskra’ is scheduled for April 9.
