The third EP by Ukrainian electronic duo Asyncronous has been released on the Kyiv-based label Kashtan. ‘Selected Memories We Never Had’ is Kashtan’s first vinyl record in four years and the label’s first release since 2023
Conceptually, ‘Selected Memories We Never Had’ explores the ‘phenomenon of memories we have never experienced’. The release description explains that ‘these can be memories constructed through stories, photographs, or even our own imagination — vivid and detailed, even though they exist only within the internal space of memory’.
The EP features six tracks in the ambient and downtempo genres. As the label notes, the release’s sound ‘immerses the listener in a space between memory and imagination, where personal experiences, collective images, and dreams intertwine, creating new, imagined landscapes’.
The album is already available on streaming platforms. You can pre-order the ‘Selected Memories We Never Had’ vinyl via the link.

How Kashtan describes the EP’s concept
‘Memories are an integral part of who we are. They shape our understanding of the world and our place in it. They define us, guide us, and shape our experiences. But what happens when we have memories we never truly experienced — memories constructed through stories, photographs, or even our own imagination?
These are memories we never had, and they have the power to shape us just as profoundly as true memories do. They can be based on real events, but with the passage of time, they often become distorted, influenced by our own perspectives and feelings. They may be vivid and detailed, yet they are not real. Those memories can be inspired by dreams, collective memories shared by a group, or simply manifestations of our deepest desires or wishes.
Artists have long been fascinated by the idea of memories we never had. They use their mediums to explore how these memories shape us, how they can be used to understand ourselves and others, and how they can create new worlds. Through their work, they make visible these intangible and often invisible experiences.
In literature, these memories are often represented as dreamlike reflections of characters’ innermost desires, representing unfulfilled hopes or regrets. In paintings, they can appear as surreal landscapes, representing a longing for a place that never existed or reflecting a time gone by. Photography and cinema have also used this theme to explore the idea of memory and nostalgia, reflecting on the ability of the past to shape the present and the power of the mind to create new, imagined worlds.
Memories we never had profoundly impact who we are, shaping our understanding of ourselves and the world around us. They can reflect our deepest desires, manifest regrets or hopes, or simply conjure an imagined world. But in the end, they are an essential part of our emotional lives and can inspire powerful art that touches the hearts of many’.

About the Kashtan label
Producer, DJ, and Rhythm Büro co-founder Vira Logdanidi launched the Kashtan label in 2020. It became a continuation of her eponymous radio show on 20ft Radio, where she introduced audiences to young independent Ukrainian producers.
‘The label sets a new standard of quality for releases that can now be purchased and heard worldwide. But the core concept remains unchanged: carefully selected gems of Ukrainian electronic music without predefined genre boundaries’, the label description reads.
The first release on the label was ‘Timeline’, an album by Ukrainian producer Sunchase.
