Myroslav Slaboshpytskyi directed part of an anthology film about the war in Ukraine. Sean Penn played in it

Director Myroslav Slaboshpytskyi (‘The Tribe’) announced that he has completed the first part of shooting a short story for the anthology film ‘War Through the Eyes of Animals’. Actor and director Sean Penn starred in it

The short story ‘The Eagle’ is the ninth and final episode of ‘War Through the Eyes of Animals’.

The film company SOTA Cinema Group, which is engaged in the project, said: the story of ‘The Eagle’ is set at the beginning of a full-scale invasion in the Chornobyl reserve — a sound engineer went there at the request of a foreign producer to record the voices of rare birds, and subsequently becomes an accidental witness to the war.

The first part of the film was shot in Los Angeles. The second part of the story will be filmed in Ukraine, on the territory of one of the nature reserves, which suffered as a result of russian missile attacks.

About the anthology film ‘War Through the Eyes of Animals’

The anthology film consists of nine short stories based on the real events of the full-scale war in Ukraine. The main characters of the novels are animals.

According to the authors of ‘War Through the Eyes of Animals’, they ‘want to show the trials that not only humans but also animals have to endure in Ukraine’ and emphasize that ‘environmental disasters are never limited by borders — it is always an international problem’.

The project was authored by Oleg Kokhan, a Ukrainian producer and founder of SOTA Cinema Group.

As part of the project, they have already presented three short stories: ‘The Rabbit or There and Back Again’ directed by Maksym Tuzov, ‘The Son’ by Oleksiy Mamedov and ‘The Cow in the Fog’ by Yuliia Shashkova. They were screened at the Berlin Film Festival in February 2023.

‘War Through the Eyes of Animals’ is scheduled to premiere in the spring of 2024 at one of the international film festivals. The team has not yet disclosed the name of the festival.

For the project ‘War Through the Eyes of Animals’ actor Andriy Lidagovskiy (‘My Thoughts Are Silent’) shot his first feature film.

His short story is called ‘We’re All Right’ and will be a ‘mini exploration of the life of a young guy from Kyiv’ and an attempt to explore feelings such as ‘survivor’s guilt’ and ‘delayed life’. Lidagovskiy also acted as the screenwriter of the short story and played the lead role in the film.
