Вийшла фотокнига Євгена Малолєткі про облогу Маріуполя

Photojournalist Yevhen Malolietka released a book about the siege of Mariupol

In ‘Siege of Mariupol’, published by Ukraїner, Yevhen Malolietka presents a collection of photographs taken during his 20 days in the city at the start of the full-scale invasion

The photographs are accompanied by Malolietka’s personal notes. The book was edited by writer and war documentarian Myroslav Laiuk.

‘This book is about people and about the responsibility of a journalist: to convey their truth and maintain a connection. Among other things, this story is about what it’s like to be in that moment when a city is surrounded and the enemy is searching for you; what it’s like to press the camera shutter as a father cries over the body of his dead son; what it’s like to witness the worst and not lower the camera’, the description reads.

‘Siege of Mariupol’ is available for pre-order on the Ukraїner website for 800 UAH.

About Yevhen Malolietka

Together with video journalist and director Mstyslav Chernov and producer Vasylisa Stepanenko, Malolietka documented the events in Mariupol during the first 20 days of the full-scale war, when the city was almost cut off from the outside world, surrounded, and under Russian attack.

Malolietka’s photographs were published by leading global media and discussed at the UN Security Council. On March 15, 2022, Ukrainian forces evacuated Chernov, Malolietka, and Stepanenko from Mariupol after Russian forces began searching for the journalists.

‘We came to Mariupol an hour before the war’. These are the speeches of Ukrainian photographers telling the world about the besieged Mariupol

In 2023, Chernov, Stepanenko, and Malolietka — along with American journalist Lori Hinnant, who supervised their work — were awarded the Pulitzer Prize.

‘20 Days in Mariupol’, a documentary by the journalists, received the Audience Award at the Sundance Film Festival and an Oscar.
