Український сноуборд-фільм NOTATNYK

Premiere on DTF Magazine: The film ‘NOTATNYK’ by the Ukrainian snowboarding community

‘NOTATNYK’ was filmed by brothers Viktor Mykhailevych and Andrii Mykhailevych, aka SNOWBRODERS, together with their friend Maksym Holyk. This diary is their attempt to capture Ukrainian snowboard culture, which ‘loses infrastructure, support, and attention every year’

‘NOTATNYK’ was filmed over three winter seasons from 2021 to 2024 at the Drahobrat ski resort, which the authors describe as ‘one of the few places in Ukraine where snowboarding still exists as a culture’.

The riders lived there, built a snowpark themselves, trained other riders, and filmed their tricks and progress.

‘The title of the film, ‘NOTATNYK’, came about spontaneously, because this video is essentially our notebook — or archive — covering the period from 2021 to 2024.

We filmed just for ourselves, without a clear plan. Later, we started filming more consciously — with a film in mind. After four years, we’ve gathered material that we wanted to share with the Ukrainian snowboarding community’, the authors say.

The film has no team or production behind it. Everything — from building the park features to filming and editing — was done by the riders and their like-minded friends.

‘Essentially, this video is an attempt to capture three years of life in one small project. I hope you’ll get as much enjoyment from watching it as we did while creating it’, Vitia Mykhailychevych adds.

The personal goal of the creators of ‘NOTATNYK’ is ‘to remember how it was and to make it better’, but they also hope the film will draw attention to Ukrainian snowboarding, inspire someone to start riding, filming their own videos, and trying new tricks.
