Антоніо Лукіч та Fore Films на ринку копродукції Берлінале

Antonio Lukich’s new film won at the Berlinale Co-Production Market

Ukrainian drama ‘Screaming Girl’ directed by Antonio Lukich (‘Luxembourg, Luxembourg’) has won the top prize at the Berlinale Co-Production Market. It is awarded by Eurimages, a European film support fund, at the Berlinale — the prize amounts to 20 thousand EUR and is intended for the creation of the project

The plot of Lukich’s upcoming film ‘Screaming Girl’ tells the story of a girl who, after the outbreak of a full-scale war in Ukraine, finds herself in Ireland and pursues her dream of becoming an actress. During this period, she begins to experience strange and almost fantastical events that disrupt her usual life, prompting her to rebuild it from scratch.

The award was presented to ForeFilms production company, which represented the film at the Berlinale Co-Production Market and will produce it.

A total of 34 feature-length films were presented at the Berlinale Co-Production Market in 2024, the producers of which held more than 1,500 individual meetings with potential partners. Another Ukrainian project was presented in the book section of the market — the book ‘Antonivka’ by director Kateryna Gornostai.

The winner was chosen by a special jury consisting of distribution specialist Emma Scott (Screen Ireland, Ireland), sales agent Oscar Alonso (Latido Films, Spain) and producer Uljana Kim (Studio Uljana Kim, Lithuania).

The Berlinale Co-Production Market supports the Ukrainian project for the second year in a row — in 2023 the winner of the market was Ruslan Batytskyi’s film ‘Blindsight’.

Lukich’s most recent work is the feature film ‘Luxembourg, Luxembourg’, released in April 2023.

It tells the story about twin brothers from the town of Lubny, played by Ramil Nasirov and Amil Nasirov from the band Kurgan & Agregat.

Antonio Lukich won as Best Director of the 20th Monte Carlo Film Festival. The film also won in the Best Film category at the Prishtina International Film Festival.
