Cape Cod released the album ‘Match Point’ on vinyl

The electronic project Cape Cod has released the album ‘Match Point’ on vinyl. The record features tracks from the 2023 EP ‘Match Point’ and the 2024 EP ‘Silhouettes of Storefronts’, as well as the bonus single ‘Insomnia’. The vinyl was released in a limited edition of 300 copies

In a comment to DTF Magazine, sound producer and musician Maksym Sikalenko says that the ‘Match Point’ vinyl is a version of what Cape Cod’s third full-length album was originally meant to be back in 2022.

‘We planned to release it in March, but due to the full-scale invasion we decided to split it into two parts. As a result, the first EP came out in 2023 and the second in 2024. Now we finally have the opportunity to present the album to listeners in the form it was originally conceived and planned — including the track ‘Insomnia’, which will never be released digitally and will exist only on vinyl’.

When releasing the first part of ‘Match Point’ in 2023, Cape Cod said that from the moment the album was created to the release of its first part, ‘the tracks had already taken on new meanings’. Now Maksym explains that the full-scale war has broadly ‘changed the experience of his generation’, which the song lyrics were originally addressed to.

‘The lyrics in Cape Cod are a story of their own. For a dance project, it’s important not to overload the songs with meaning, as that would distract the listener from the dance element at live shows. On the other hand, making the lyrics too simple would no longer be Cape Cod. So, most of the tracks were about the perspectives of my generation: about accepting loneliness, about non-dualism and the passage of time, about embracing mistakes, and finding joy in the very fact of existence and inner peace. All of these ideas are expressed very transparently, so listeners mostly fill in the gaps with their own meanings based on their personal experience. And the full-scale war has profoundly changed that experience’.

In response to a question about how the album’s sound on vinyl differs from the digital release, Sikalenko says: ‘What appeals to me more is the very concept of being able to come home, put on the record you want to hear at that moment, and listen to it from start to finish — without Spotify or Apple Music algorithms’.

The vinyl record can be purchased on the Vinyla website.
