We revive the rubric in which we ask Ukrainian photographers to choose from their archives the images that best describe certain feelings, emotions or states. The heroine of the fourth episode is Kris Voitkiv, a photographer and co-founder of the women’s volunteer association ‘CVIT’. The heroes of her works are her young and candid peers.
All the photos in this article are part of the ‘People in their bathrooms’ series, which Kris has been shooting since 2018 to date. ‘The emotions I have chosen are subjectively associative rather than clearly expressed’.
Certainty
We may face uncertainty every day, but there are some things we are always certain of.

Courage
This emotion — virtue — was added by me personally. We took this shot in July 2022, when Semen was undergoing rehabilitation after a wound he received in Popasna (Luhansk region). At that time we were not yet together, but now Semen is my lover. It has been almost a year since he returned to the front, where every day he courageously defends us and our freedom.

Tenderness and gratitude

Passion
An all-consuming process that can separate you from reality, as is the case with the heroines in the photo.

Shame
Katya is one of my first models who agreed to all my photographic experiments, but was always very shy about her face during the shoot. This photo — the first in the series — is my favorite.

Attraction
Having an attraction and a strong inner need to be yourself and to BE is an advantage of the free and independent people.

Fear

Joy
This shot was taken in an Italian villa when my friends and I were on vacation. Bad exposure doesn’t bother me here, because there is still light in this grainy darkness thanks to sincere emotion.

Interest
I find this photo very playful and with an interest in the person who seems to be sitting opposite.
