Chris Kore’s audio reactive visual artworks complemented the performances of seven DJs at the DGTL festival and Boiler Room in Amsterdam. The artist created the visuals in real time, and the canvas was a 25 by 3 meters LED screen. In a commentary for DTF Magazine, Chris Kore spoke about the implementation of the project
Among the artists whose performances were accompanied by Chris Kore’s visuals are LSDXOXO, Ross From Friends, DJ Fuckoff, BELLA, Bibi Seck, Tsepo and Twiena.
About the concept
According to Chris, the concept of the festival was to combine technology and art — ‘a perfect simulation that combines the physical world with the digital world’. And an individual visual language was developed for each of the stages.
‘My main goal was to create audio reactive art that in combination with each artist’s set would create the effect of an immersive experience for festival visitors, where time, rhythm and space become one’, the artist says.

Chris Kore’s visual concept was to create a ‘unity effect’ between picture and sound: ‘I’m interested in exploring the facets of perception when you realize you see and feel sound, or hear form and color’.
‘Since you never know in advance what a particular DJ or producer is going to play, the biggest challenge is to sense and interpret the style and direction of an individual artist into visual art that could enhance the experience of the music played’.

About technical implementation
According to the artist, she had ‘complete freedom of action’, limited only by the DGTL color scheme and screen size.
When Chris was creating the set she collaborated with Dutch visual artist Emanuel Nijkerk and Raito studio. Together with Emanuel she played generative art at the Draaimolen festival anniversary and Draaimolen Holy Pink in 2023.
Chris and Nijkerk created the visuals for the DGTL performances in Touchdesigner, a program designed for real-time visual programming: ‘So even though we control and play our sketches with different controllers during the performance, it is the programmed art that never repeats itself and is unique every time’.
Chris Kore also created animated posters for the Boiler Room 2024 world tour.
