20ft Radio and French media outlet Le Type have launched a joint music project

As part of the project, artists from Bordeaux, France (where Le Type is based) and Kyiv will record mixes that will be featured on both platforms. In this way, the team wants to build connections between the music scenes of the two cities and introduce new artists to their audiences

Guest mixes will be released every month throughout 2024. The platforms will feature artists in turn.

‘Even though last weekend there were marches across France to mark the two-year anniversary of russia’s invasion of Ukraine (and ten years of war), it is important to continue organizing rallies in support of Ukraine, — Le Type’s website says. — As for the cultural and artistic sector, there are many ways to help Ukrainians: you can invite artists to perform (in concert halls, clubs, etc.), publicize their work, give them a voice’.

The first Bordeaux-Kyiv Exchange record released in January was a compilation mix by amoursisterhood, a Bordeaux-based independent label founded in 2021 that promotes alternative electronic music by Bordeaux-based artists. The label features around ten projects, with genres ranging from ambient music to breakcore and darkwave.

The second February episode was recorded by Ukrainian DJ Ecce Lizard, who writes music in the deconstructed/art pop genre, but also plays academic and noise music.

All Bordeaux-Kyiv Exchange Le Type and 20ft Radio mixes will be collected in a joint SoundCloud playlist.

20ft Radio is a Kyiv-based independent radio station founded in 2016 that has collaborated with key clubs, formations and electronic music festivals in Ukraine. The radio station is housed in a 20-foot shipping container and therefore has this name.

In July 2023, 20ft Radio moved to the Community Garden on Kyrylivska Street. During the winter, 20ft events take place every Friday at Community Cafe. Previously, the radio station was based at 31 Nyzhnoyurkivska Street.

The Strategic Media Support Program project will implement the Lviv Media Forum with the financial support of People in Need (PIN) and Pioneer Foundation.
