Electronic musician Maksym Sikalenko, aka Cape Cod, has recorded a mix for the annual Cold Times series by Apple Music. This is the first Ukrainian artist to be invited to take part in the project
Cold Times mixes are released annually in the fall. Apple Music invites several artists and DJs for the project — they record special mix selections using mostly indie music that reflects their feelings about the fall and winter seasons.
Cold Times by Cape Cod includes 18 tracks by Ukrainian and foreign artists. The mix starts with a song by composer Valentyn Silvestrov. Among other local artists from the selection are Jamala and Hyphen Dash.
‘Always the hardest part is choosing the opener, the first track in the mix, because in fact it creates the overall vibe of everything that comes next. Valentyn Silvestrov’s music is perfect for this task’, Cape Cod told DTF Magazine.
According to the musician, he wanted to create ‘as eclectic a mix as possible because every genre and style has a form with which you can express your feelings about fall’.
Cape Cod added that he dedicated part of the selection to contemporary jazz music, because ‘it is in the fall that jazz and soul are revealed to him in a special way’. Among other styles used in the mix, the musician named r&b, neo soul, electronic dance music and hip-hop house.
‘I wanted to create a kind of essential mix, not just a selection of favorite tracks of the same genre, but at the same time stick to a medium tempo to make it all work holistically’.
