The RIOTDIVISION collection featuring the brand’s new technology — COLEOPTERA SYSTEM — includes bags, backpacks, and trousers. Coleoptera are beetles with a dual wing system, in which one pair is used for flight, while the other serves as a protective shell
About COLEOPTERA SYSTEM
The brand’s team says that the RIOTDIVISION collection was inspired by the stag beetle: during flight, they spread their wings, and after landing, they hide them beneath a hard chitinous shell.
This principle of natural transformation in the COLEOPTERA collection has been embodied in a pocket system that, like wings, can open and hide behind the outer layer.
It took almost a year to develop the technology. During the work, the team created seven experimental samples, and RIOTDIVISION calls reproducing the working principle and translating the biological mechanism into an item that has to function in real movement the most difficult part of the process.
‘Additional space remains invisible until it becomes necessary. Just like in nature, function here is not added to form — it is part of it. This principle runs through all the key pieces in the collection’, the brand’s team says.

About the items from the collection
The drop includes an everyday 20-liter backpack equipped with a separate laptop compartment, a ventilated back panel, and anatomically shaped removable shoulder straps.
COLEOPTERA SYSTEM is embodied in it through pockets that pull out from the front pocket and fasten onto the surface of the backpack with metal snaps.
RIOTDIVISION also introduced a tote bag with a capacity ranging from 7 to 12 liters. It features a main compartment with one mesh pocket and two zippered pockets, as well as an external hidden COLEOPTERA SYSTEM pocket.
Another accessory in the collection is a sacoche bag with two zippered compartments and an internal mesh pocket. At the same time, it was not equipped with COLEOPTERA SYSTEM pockets.
The backpack and tote bag were released in black and khaki colors. The sacoche is available in khaki only.
For the cargo pants, the brand chose a relaxed fit. They are equipped with an elastic waistband featuring an integrated belt, four standard pockets, and two side COLEOPTERA SYSTEM pockets. They were released in black and khaki colors.
All items in the collection are made of nylon with a water-repellent finish and ripstop weave. According to the brand team, the material’s texture resembles the delicate wings of a beetle — ‘as if the natural material of the wing had been scaled up to the size of a textile fabric’.
‘The most challenging part was achieving a balance between all these characteristics at the same time. It was impossible to solve the issue of compactness separately from strength, pocket access, or the operation of the mechanism itself. Changing one element affected the entire structure, which is why the process took so much time’, RIOTDIVISION explains.
Another element of the collection in the future will be a functional jacket featuring COLEOPTERA SYSTEM. The brand says that its mass production became RIOTDIVISION’s ‘biggest challenge’, so it will be released later.
