New place: tattoo studio ‘Stroom’ in the Community Center on Kyrylivska Street

Kyiv tattoo studio ‘Stroom’ changes its location after six years of operation near the Golden Gate (Zoloti Vorota) and will now operate in the Community Center by ‘Club on Kyrylivska’. The opening is scheduled for February 18 — a charity event will also take place on that day. don’t Take Fake Magazine tells more about the space

According to Helen Poputnikova, the founder of ‘Stroom’, due to the decreasing demand for tattooing and the lack of foreign tourists, which used to help the tattoo studio cover its rental costs, the team had to find a space with more reasonable prices than the old space on Velyka Zhytomyrska. When the team of ‘Club on Kyrylivska’ opened a Community Center next to the club, which united Community Cafe and other projects under one roof, ‘Stroom’ decided to settle on this location.

‘We were offered to open a studio there on better terms and with cool neighbors, including a summer garden and 20ft radio, — Poputnikova tells don’t Take Fake Magazine in a comment. — People will be able to come get tattooed and spend time in the former beer factory area enjoying cool music’.

About the features of the new space

Wood, fabric and warm colors were used in the interior of the studio. The old ‘Stroom’ space operated in an open space format. ‘Of course, it makes sense and has its pluses for working in a creative team, when tattoos by other artists inspire and they share with each other tips that they didn’t ask for, but that they deserve to get from expert colleagues, and everyone can look at the process, but on the other hand — it’s a bit of a hindrance’, Helen shares.

In the new space, the problem of privacy has been solved thanks to curtains. According to Helen, the barely transparent fabric walls still give a feeling of presence of colleagues, but allow artists to concentrate more on communication with the client: ‘It allows us to realize big ideas of tattoos, where a person can be even completely naked’.

A large round table was installed in the hall, which ‘creates the right mood for the exchange of ideas’. In total, 12 artists work at ‘Stroom’: 11 of them specialize in tattoos and one artist specializes in piercings.

About the events that will take place at ‘Stroom’

During the full-scale war, the ‘Stroom’ team held several charity flash events to support the volunteers who will continue their work already in the new location.

‘There is a format of walk in day, which is not very developed in our country, but is quite popular in the world of tattoos, — Poputnikova adds. — This is the format of a live queue and ready-made sketches, which can be chosen immediately for a small fixed price’.

Their next event will be held on February 18, during which they will be raising money to support one of the residents of ‘Stroom’, Roman Sovi, and his unit.

The studio is open from 11:00 am to 8:00 pm by appointment.
