‘vidpusty shturval’ is the first single from the upcoming LP ‘[metanoia]’, set to release this autumn, and one of three tracks that vocalist, composer, and co-founder of the band Tonka, Olena Karas, will release ahead of the album. Alongside the track, Karas has also shared a video for ‘vidpusty shturval’, with which she kicks off a visual trilogy for the album
In the track, Olena explores the theme of losing control and illustrates ‘chaotic movement in a space where old landmarks no longer exist and new ones have not yet appeared’. However, the artist suggests ‘letting go of the helm’ and taking a fresh look at a state that can become ‘the beginning of an inner rebirth’.
The song culminates in an improvised vocal solo, which is compared to the image of consciousness caught up in the current of change.
The track also features contributions from Daniil Zubkov (Lucas Bird), who worked on the guitar parts and arrangement, and Mykhailo Halaktionov, who recorded the drums.
Ahead of the album’s release, Olena Karas has prepared a visual trilogy, the first part of which is the music video for ‘vidpusty shturval’.
The video was directed by Lika Miroshnychenko. The choreography was created by Hala Piekha and performed by dancer Sasha Vakurov and Olena Karas herself.
About the ‘[metanoia]’ album
Olena Karas’s ‘[metanoia]’ is described as an ‘album-performance’ that forms ‘a cohesive statement about a person’s inner transformation’. In the new tracks, the artist explores the states people experience during moments of profound upheaval.
The singer will release two more main tracks from the album, completing the visual trilogy. The full release of ‘[metanoia]’ is scheduled for October 2026, after which Karas will present it as a multisensory theatrical performance in November.
