Ukrainian director Tanu Muiño directed a fall advertising campaign for Gap under the slogan ‘Denim on Your Own’. It is dedicated to the brand’s denim line, which was launched back in 1969, and the main roles in the video were played by actress Inde Navarrette (‘Obsession’) and singer Malcolm Todd
In the campaign, Inde and Malcolm use Gap denim ‘as a canvas for their creativity and personal style’.
In the video, the singer and actress, set against a blank white backdrop, showcase various looks featuring pieces from the brand. The video is soundtracked by a new version of Robyn’s single ‘Dancing on My Own’, performed by Malcolm himself.
‘I’ve always been drawn to making things my own — whether that’s through music, style, or the way I express myself,’ said Todd. ‘Being able to reinterpret an iconic song like ‘Dancing on My Own’ was such a special experience. I like to trust my instincts and not overthink things.’
The brand explains the campaign’s idea as follows: ‘‘Denim on Your Own’ reflects how Gap’s timeless essentials become part of the everyday lives of artists as they create, perform, and connect with their audiences’.
At the same time, describing the collaboration with Navarrette and Todd, Gap notes that it ‘continues to serve as a platform for the next generation of creative voices, championing emerging artists who are shaping culture through music, art, and self-expression’.
Other works by Tanu Muiño
In spring 2025, singer Sevdaliza released a new music video for her track ‘HEROINA’, created by a Ukrainian-Georgian team led by director Tanu Muiño.
In ‘HEROINA’, the artist ‘asserts her corporeality not in the context of objectification, but as an expression of freedom and strength’. She also expresses support, particularly for women, the LGBTQ+ community, immigrants, and refugees. In fact, not only excerpts from the song but also specific visuals in the video allude to the themes of immigration and refuge.
We shared more details about the work and the visuals from the music video in our article with ‘HEROINA’ creative director Marharyta Shekel.
