Owen revealed his involvement in ‘Radioactive’ at the Taormina Film Festival, later confirmed by Myroslav Slaboshpytskyi himself. Best known for ‘Children of Men’ and ‘King Arthur’, Owen is a BAFTA and Golden Globe winner, as well as an Academy Award nominee
Owen said he was deeply impressed by the screenplay for ‘Radioactive’, as well as by Slaboshpytskyi’s film ‘The Tribe’.
‘It’s hard to put into words how happy I was when Clive Owen agreed to take on the lead role in our film ‘Radioactive’. For me, this is a huge honor. He is a brilliant actor and a genuinely unique creative personality. I’ve been a big fan of his work and have seen pretty much everything he’s ever done. I can’t wait for filming to begin’, Slaboshpytskyi wrote on Instagram.

‘Radioactive’ is being positioned as a ‘nuclear noir’ set within the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone.
‘The director will capture not only the invisible presence of radiation, but also the painful transformation of the people living in the Exclusion Zone. And if we fail to understand what happens to us at the epicenter of danger, tomorrow a Geiger counter will start crackling in every home from Tokyo to New York. Yet, it will no longer be measuring radiation — it will be recording the disintegration of the human soul itself’, producer Oleh Kokhan said.
The film is a co-production between Ukraine, Germany, and Austria. Filming is scheduled to begin in 2027.
About Myroslav Slaboshpytskyi’s other films
In 2022, Slaboshpytskyi announced plans to adapt John Vaillant’s nonfiction book ‘The Tiger: A True Story of Vengeance and Survival’.
The film stars Alexander Skarsgård in one of its leading roles and is produced by Darren Aronofsky and Brad Pitt.
The story is set in 1997 in Russia’s Far East, on the outskirts of the village of Sobolonye, where residents are repeatedly attacked by an endangered Amur tiger. Faced with the escalating threat, the locals and a Canadian journalist dedicated to protecting wildlife must choose between killing the animal and searching for another solution.
Skarsgård (‘The Northman’, ‘Pillion’) will play Vanzin, a man who leads a team dedicated to protecting tigers from poachers and illegal loggers.
